Old Passport Accounts
Have you ever wondered why the banks changed?
Sure they will tell you it's safer and much easier to access, there are plenty of atms around. But what if you memory isn't too good and you can't remember your pin number? Wouldn't a passport account be better for you? Sure you would have to go into the bank but it saves you the hassle of trying to remember your pin number.
The old passports were great as you were able to see what money you have in your account without having to go online or go to your nearest atm to get a balance. You didn't have to worry about forgetting your pin number or worry that you will be overdrawn and be charged an overdrawn fee.
Many people have requested the old passport accounts but unfortunately, the banks refuse to open them, or if they do they have all sorts of fees attached, or don't give you any interest on your money Basically any excuse not to open one, they prefer you to have a card. Some banks will tell you that "they don't have the software to open the accounts anymore," that is what i was told when I tried to open one. But if you have an existing account then by all means they still can use them, it only effects new account of course that you can't open!
ATM Cards
Getting an atm card is easy you just apply at any bank show 100 points and walah you got it. But is is really safe as they say they are?
I think they can be. For them to be 'safe' you must be able to remember your pin number for starters, and if possible change it from time to time.
When doing your banking at an atm machine make sure you cover the keypad from anyone watching you and that if there are cameras about no one can see what numbers you have pressed.
Always a quick look around for anyone that may watching you, in the car park or in the shopping mall.
Check that the atm doesn't have anything attached to it that looks susspections..
tip: cover the keypad with one hand and try to memorize where the numbers are so you don'i have to look at it and no one else can see it.
If this is all too much hassle you can always go into the bank and get your money that way, but beware some banks will charge for the pleasure of doing this for you.
Still confused? Want to get your money out without fees and still go into the bank? You can do this, you can still have your account in the bank but not linked to any cards all you have to do is go into the bank and tell the Teller you want to take money out of the account, show some id and there you go you can take your money out safely without fear of being scammed or charged a fee. (but please check with your bank if this is available to you).
On line Banking
On line banking is great for those on the go It is good for transferring funds, checking your balance, paying bills, etc. But do you really trust the internet? Sure they say it's safe but how safe is safe? I can't answer that. I don't like it cause I prefer face to face contact with people and if I have any queries I can ask while I am there. I find the internet banking a bit 'cold,' but can be good if you prefer this method or you are too busy or don't like waiting in ques.
Conclusion
Well now the choose is yours. I prefer the old fashion banking. Passports are great you can see the balance without going to an atm. Cards on the other hand are good too. If you don't forget your pin and remember to change it from time to time. On line is good too for those who are too busy.
I still think that all three options should still be available regardless of cost to the banks.
I have given you a few options I hope they are helpful. Let me know what you think.
